Hubbard council discusses a Shenango Valley Water Co contract to purchase water. Councilman Rohrer, with two attorneys review, finds problems and questions terms as a rapid briefing leaves unclear details. An engineer from MS Consultants attended the session.
Council met in executive session March 30 to discuss pending litigation and scheduled a second reading of a measure to hire Attorney Charles L. Richards to represent Hubbard in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court over Thomas Creed's challenge to the council approved pay raise for Mayor Albert Sauline Jr. in 1989. The 11th District overturned a 1990 ruling that the pay raise was legal and sent the case back to Judge Shaker. Tucciarone noted emergency passage was defeated by Rohrer Keenan and Palumbo, and the second reading was set for last Friday.
The levy committee discussed a 15 minute video produced by Video Suite of Poland to explain the 11 mill levy. It outlines need, district impact if it fails, and plans to use funds from the levy campaign for production. A second commercial will air before the election.
HUBBARD The Board of Education will continue to pay about $30,000 a year in retirement benefits for administrators despite a March 23 attempt to discontinue payments. Board member Robert DeJulio had urged ending the employee portion for the superintendent treasurer and the three school and one assistant principals.
A Good Friday tenebrae service will be held April 17 at 7 p.m. in St. Patrick Church. Sponsored by Hubbard Christians In Action, the service features scripture and song on the passion of Jesus Christ from the Gospel of Mark. Rev. Don Dickens will deliver the message. HCIA will also host a sunrise Easter service at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Earl Caldwell. Hubbard Township trustees also changed their regular meeting to Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at the administration building.
