The National Weather Service says a cold front is approaching western Arkansas and is expected to move through the state by Saturday morning, with most shower activity ending by that time.
Low pressure system in Kansas may bring showers to North and East Arkansas. Temperatures fall as a cold front passes through the state. highs reach mid 70s to mid 80s and lows 50s to 60s. Arkansas weather figures include Fayetteville 84 67 with 1.20 inches rain. Fort Smith over two inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

Howard Johnson Jr., 25, of Buckner died Friday when his car lost control on US 2 three miles west of Lewisville and overturned three times, according to State Police Trooper David Fullen.
The First Christian Church of Hope marks its 91st anniversary on Sunday Oct 7 with Homecoming and Rally Day. Guest speaker Mrs Joy Greer, president of the Regional Christian Church Board, will address attendees, with photographs from past Homecomings on display. The church was organized in 1882 and sits at North Main and West Avenue B, Rev Gaylon L Decious preacher since 1971. Doyle Howard of Delight Ark died Wednesday at a local nursing home age 67. He leaves a wife and multiple children and grandchildren. Funeral rites are set for 2 30 p.m. Saturday at Delight Assembly of God, with burial at Smyrna cemetery near Okolona. Frank C Collins of Buckner Ark died Thursday in a Shreveport hospital aged 72. He belonged to Buckner Baptist Church and served as veteran of WWI and WWII. Surviving relatives include three stepsons and eight grandchildren.
Arkadelphia prosecutor Norman Smith asked for a grand jury to be empaneled for the first time in 18 years to investigate possible widespread law violations. He may present evidence involving former deputy Travis Mathis, who was fired after Williams was arrested for grand larceny and extortion. Williams is accused of pressuring Frank Wheat for a sentence in exchange for money. Wheat faced marijuana charges. Mathis and his wife Sherry were connected to the fallout, with Sherry fired to avoid conflicts of interest as Williams’ case unfolds. Judges Goodman and Turner will decide on panel timing, with Turner noting the move’s broader potential benefits.
Ruth Burns a 57 year old book store clerk was convicted in Pulaski Circuit Court on selling obscene literature. Judge Richard Adkisson fined her 590 dollars after a jury verdict reversing a prior North Little Rock Municipal Court ruling. Her Atlanta lawyer said the conviction would be appealed to the Arkansas Supreme Court.
The Back Home dinner party for Mr. and Mrs. John Horner Stroughter of San Francisco was hosted by Mrs. Fannie Alexander and Henry Brandon on September 20 at her home. A large group of friends and relatives attended and gave gifts. Georgia Anna Williams died at her Rosston home on September 23. She was the wife of Fred Williams. Burial followed at Kendrick Chapel Cemetery.
