State tax crackdown and new budget proposal mix in commentary
The Arkansas Democrat notes a crackdown on 11 000 residents who failed to file income tax returns as state levies rise from nominal to full tax. It quotes WR Orton on penalties and voluntary filers, and ponders fairness if delinquent rates spark slippage. The piece also discusses Senator McClellan offering an alternate budget to reveal how Truman would rearrange expenditures without new taxes, a move likely rejected by the president.
