The National Weather Service says showers should end in Arkansas today and temperatures should rise as a low pressure system and a cold front move out of the state.

Skylab I commander Charles Conrad and pilot Paul Weitz attend Northern Illinois University’s 75th anniversary ceremonies in De Kalb. Weitz says humanity will reach the stars with the right means and civilization must press outward.
Evangelist Jack Hazlewood told Kiwanis Club members drugs are a national issue and that Hope is no exception. He urged faith as the solution, noting his own past battle with addiction and praising the Operation Drug Alert program while urging continued vigilance. Harry MacArthur a Washington Star News critic died at 62. Dr Paul Hoxworth 66 Cincinnati surgeon and former president of the American Association of Blood Banks died.
