Tornadoes were sighted Thursday afternoon northwest of Lafayette Louisiana and near Bascom. The cold front pushed temperatures into the 50s across the central Plains extending toward the Oklahoma Panhandle, with weather reports detailing this severe spell.
Weather and rainfall reports from across the Gulf region followed by typical local weather outlook. Readout covers scattered showers in Texas and Florida, plus temperatures from 35 to 89 across scattered stations and a forecast of partly cloudy skies with highs in the 90s and upper 70s to near 70s.
Y Tiomas Ernest Mitchell, 62, of Monticello, drowned Wednesday while fishing in a stock pond near his home. Coroner Charles F. Dearman of Drew County is noted in the report.

Edward M. A. Brewer, a Pine Bluff pharmacist, was acquitted Thursday of selling controlled drugs without a prescription. A Jefferson County Circuit Court jury of nine men and three women deliberated 45 minutes before the verdict. Brewer faced up to five years in prison and a $15,000 fine on the single count tried, the alleged sale of 36 tablets on March 20.
