The National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies and mild temperatures today and Thursday with fair skies and cool temperatures tonight. Skies cleared across northwest Arkansas Tuesday as a cool north wind lowered temperatures.

Butz urges focus on expanding world food production

Agriculture Secretary Earl J. Butz told an audience in Washington that nations should spend more time planning to produce more food than managing stockpiles. He pledged U S humanitarian relief regardless of reserves, called for coordinated reserves, and urged importing countries to build their own stocks while criticizing apocalyptic hunger scenarios as unfounded. Petitions Filed to Bring Liquor Vote to Magnolia Ballot

Chad White filed petitions in Magnolia to place a local option question on the November 5 ballot allowing alcoholic beverage sales in Columbia County. About 2,350 signatures were gathered. roughly 1,700 valid signatures are needed. County Clerk Nell Smith will certify signatures over about a week. Columbia County remains dry.
