The National Weather Service forecasts widespread shower activity across Arkansas tonight, continuing in the southeast on Wednesday. A cool air front is expected to enter the state tonight and push into southeast Arkansas, shaping the weather pattern.
Temperatures in the state Monday were mainly in the 80s with a high of 91 at Fort Smith and other highs across the region. Lows ranged from 69 to 75. Rainfall totals included 0.75 inches in Little Rock and scattered amounts in Pine Bluff Harrison and Fort Smith. Forecast calls for cloudiness with showers and possible thunderstorms tonight and again Wednesday, highs mid to upper 80s and lows mid 60s to low 70s.

Angela Acevez 37 of East Chicago Indiana was killed when the car she rode in overturned five miles west of Lehi. The vehicle driven by Peter Acevez pulled in front of a tractor trailer on Interstate 30 and was struck in the rear, launching into a ditch and ending atop the wagon.
Indiana State Prison returned to normal routine after rebellious inmates released three hostages unharmed. Leader Orlester Beverly said the protest targeted conditions at the 113 year old facility. Gov. Bowen promised amnesty from prosecution and officials announced plans for an ombudsman, better food, medical services, and isolation cells. Beverly said the uprising involved all inmates and was not racially or gang driven.
Chief Justice Warren E Burger, turning 66 on September 17, gathered with his brothers Paul and John at the home of his sister Mrs L E Iverson for a family reunion during Labor Day weekend in St Paul Minnesota.
Herman H. Wilson of Hope named area conservationist for a 12 county Southwest Arkansas SCS region, with headquarters moving from Nashville to Hope on September 2. Wilson, a Faulkner County native, has chaired the Southwest Arkansas Resource Conservation and Development Project since 1970 and served as acting area conservationist since July. He began with SCS in 1952, rising from soil scientist to district conservationist, and is married to Mary Joan Crider with three children.
Hope High School football coach Gaylord Solomon spoke to the Hope Rotary at Town and Country ahead of the season opener on August 31. He introduced staff Harold Alexander, Stan Parris, Bill Barnes, Jim Duncan, and Barry Bennett, with Wesley Huddleston absent. Practice started August 11 with about 50 players across 15 seniors, 24 juniors, and 12 sophomores, noting some in key positions replaced this year and a balanced conference.

Reports said eight tons of tetraethyl lead and calcium carbide cargo posed toxic and explosive risks. Helicopters dropped chemicals to fight the blaze.
