The National Weather Service reports gulf moisture flowing into Arkansas with widespread rainfall across the state. Showers are expected to continue tonight with a chance of heavy rainfall in the southern region.
A cold front will drift into the state Thursday slowing rain in the northwest. Tuesday's highs ranged from 78 to 89 degrees across cities like Jonesboro Fort Smith Fayetteville and Little Rock with morning lows from 64 to 76. Areas such as El Dorado Texarkana Pine Bluff and Memphis reported varied rainfall totals and the Experiment Station noted 2.10 inches in the 24 hour period ending 7 am Wednesday.

Howard W Triplett 56 of Hope died late Tuesday in a local hospital. A World War II veteran and former Maryland resident who owned a restaurant, he is survived by his wife Frances four sons James Rob John and Larry all of Hope five daughters Gloria Stiles Janet Longmead Phylis Flemings Patricia and Teresa Triplett of Hope three grandchildren his mother Mrs Zola Triplett and sister Mrs Elizabeth Maddox of West Memphis Ark Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Herndon Chapel with Rev Gordon Renshaw officiating Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Herdon in charge.
Hope Superintendent Joe Barentine spoke to the Hope Kiwanis about improved public communication and evolving concepts in education. He outlined flexible scheduling, open classrooms, tutoring, independent study, team teaching, and computer aided learning while stressing gearing teaching to modern society. The Kiwanis Pancake Supper at Hope High School was set for Friday evening.
Washington AP reports both the White House and special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox will appeal Judge Sirica's order for presidential tapes. Oral arguments set for Sept 11. Nixon may again face private judicial exam of tapes. Cox seeks clarity on what evidence goes to the grand jury. Senate Watergate committee plans a closed session next Tuesday to review a confidential espionage and campaign finances report.
Arkansas Highway Commission will open bids Sept. 26 on 22 road construction projects totaling about 8.2 million dollars. The most expensive project covers about 2.5 miles of Arkansas 270 in Hot Spring County from near Arkansas 51 to Main Street in Malvern, estimated at 2.201 million. Other items include resurfacing, bridge work, and additions on routes in multiple counties with varied costs.
