A 300 foot wooden covered bridge over the White River near Gosport Monroe County Indiana collapsed after a midnight fire believed set by Halloween pranksters. Bert Dittamore 33 a Gosport merchant died and nine volunteer firefighters were hurt in the incident authorities say.

Neely B. Coleman announced a nine event series for Hempstead County Farm Bureau to develop policy. Meetings run Oct 31 to Nov 2 at local buildings with volunteers leading each. a county-wide session Nov 8 will adopt the 1956 program for Arkansas Farm Bureau consideration. All farmers are invited to participate.
Department store sales in the Eighth Federal Reserve District rose 15 percent last week compared with the same week in 1954. Only Little Rock showed no change. Growth ranged from 4 percent in Louisville to 23 percent in the St. Louis area, with Memphis up 7 percent and eight small cities reporting 15 percent gains.
