Accident on Spring Hill Road Injures Two Pedestrians

Two Hempstead men were hurt in a collision two miles south on Spring Hill road. Dick Turnage of Hope remained in hospital Monday with improved condition after driving a taxicab that collided with A P Powell Jr’s auto. Authorities said Powell’s car was southbound as the taxi backed out, and charges likely would be filed.

No Damage in House Fire

A small fire in the wall of Mrs. I. F. Russell’s home at 409 East Second about 1 p.m. yesterday caused no damage. Firemen said the blaze likely resulted from a gas leak.

Judge Rules He Has Authority in Hoxie Case

U S District Judge Thomas C Trimble ruled he has jurisdiction to try the Hoxie Arkansas school integration controversy He denied a motion to dismiss a suit seeking to prevent pro segregationists from interfering with school operations The court then heard a request for a preliminary injunction against three pro segregation groups and individuals The ruling hinges on the defendants alleged effort to violate Supreme Court integration decisions and an appeal may follow.

Hempstead County to attend statewide broiler meeting

Hempstead County will send a strong poultry delegation to the Statewide Broiler Marketing Meet at DeQueen on Wednesday November 2. County Agent Oliver L Adams cites topics on the sales side of the broiler industry and trends in consumer demand for poultry with Dr James M Gwin and Edwin W Stillwell as speakers. A panel will discuss how to sell more broilers featuring industry representatives and extension staff. Hempstead County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs Names New Officers

Mrs. Glenon Huckabee was elected president of the Hempstead County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs at the Hempstead County Courtroom meeting on Friday afternoon October 28. Also elected were Vice-President Mrs. Gordon Prescott Secretary-Treasurer Mrs. R. C. Snelgrove and reporter Mrs. Ned Purtle. Committees for the Annual Christmas Party were announced and HDC scrapbooks are due by November 15. Eleven clubs were represented at the meeting.
