The National Weather Service predicts partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures today tonight and Thursday. The chance of showers appears across the state with widely scattered rain in the northwest tonight and elsewhere.

Texarkana Texas AP Wright Patman Democrat from Texas telegraphed President Ford urging the firing of Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz. He said restoring public confidence in federal care for farmers requires immediate action and new leadership in farm programs for East Texas cattlemen and dairymen facing desperate plights.
HUD held a public meeting at Hope City Hall about special revenue sharing under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. Sterling Cockrill said Hope would automatically qualify for $479,000 in the first year and noted local control with HUD available for expertise on request.
A repair train backing up along Southern Railway tracks hit a loaded 26 passenger bus at a crossing near Rockmart Georgia. At least six people died including the bus driver Billy Kellett, and officials say children were trapped beneath the derailed caboose as frantic parents gathered.
James Frederick Rick Howard named manager at Camden for Southwestern Bell, succeeding Norma Pierce who moves to Fort Smith as district manager. A Little Rock native, Howard, with the company since 1969, will oversee commercial and business office operations across multiple Arkansas towns. He previously worked in Little Rock coin and West Memphis business roles, studied at the Arkansas School of Business and UALR, and served six years in the Arkansas Air National Guard. Burial and memorial details follow with tributes and donations to the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association.
