Showers May Spread Over Arkansas Thursday

The forecast notes a slight chance of showers in the west today and in all but the southeast tonight and Thursday. The precipitation probability is 2 percent today in the west portion, rising to 20 percent tonight and 3 percent in some areas, with Thursday bringing up to 20 percent rain in parts of the state.

Jungle doc leads Jungle Habitat vet team at drive-through park

In West Milford New Jersey Warner Brothers Jungle Habitat operates a full-time medical staff headlined by a resident veterinarian and assistants who visit the roaming animals twice daily. The 1000 acre park hosts about 1500 animals including lions tigers elephants zebras antelopes baboons buffalos and birds in a jungle-themed setting.

Missionary Josephine Scaggs to Speak at First Baptist Hope

Southern Baptist missionary to Nigeria Josephine Scaggs will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Hope and at a 10:30 a.m. Monday luncheon for the Women's Missionary Union. Scaggs previously advised Baptist associations in the Niger delta and later worked in Okuta during the Nigerian conflict before assisting in Port Harcourt tasks.

Hope area clubs, events host dinners and talks this week

The Business and Professional Women's Club of Hope hosts a Friday chicken spaghetti supper at Hope High School cafeteria from 5 to 7 30 p m with tickets 2 for adults 1 for under 13. A Chamber coffee is set for Thursday at the chamber office from 9 to 11 a m and 2 to 4 p m open to the public. Jim Harris speaks today to Lewisville High School classes on journalism as a career. Perrytown Carnival, a fire department fundraiser, begins 7 p m Saturday with games and a Marlin rifle raffle. An open house benefit supper Thursday at Hopewell Middle School serves turkey and dressing to support a work room project plus a Social Studies Fair. Revival services continue two weeks at the House of Jacob with Bishop Jel B Yonker as guest speaker nightly. Miss Scaggs, noted Baptist missionary, honored for work in Nigeria and Africa, with a long biographical record from Arkansas and Nigeria.

Shoplifting Seminar at Hope City Hall Auditorium

A shoplifting seminar will be conducted at Hope City Hall auditorium at 7 30 p m on October 28. Lt Jenkins of the Little Rock Police Department will speak. Two films on shoplifting will be shown. The program lasts about 90 minutes. Open to employers and employees only.

Spacecraft Venus 9 Becomes First Artificial Satellite

MOSCOW AP Venus 9, an unmanned Soviet craft, has entered orbit around Venus, becoming the planet’s first artificial satellite. It was launched June 8, but the Tass report gave no orbit insertion details. Venus 10 followed six days later, with speculation of landing one craft while the other observes Venus.

Edna Gibson to Perform Two Shows This Weekend

Edna Gibson of Edna and the Misfits is set to appear Sunday at Texarkana College in a two and a half hour public radio program on Country America Show starting at 2 38 p.m. The act, featuring area talent, will also perform with Jerry Lee Lewis in DeKalb, Texas on November 29.
