The Mets took a 3-2 lead into Oakland behind Tom Seaver as they sought to finish the A's in the World Series. Yogi Berra avoided direct assurances, hinting Seaver would be the key to closing out the series.
New York AP report says the Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Reggie Smith and pitcher Ken Tatum to St. Louis for starter Rick Wise and outfielder Bernie Carbo. World Series fate cited. team officials neither confirmed nor denied the deal, expected later in November. Smith batted .303 with 21 homers and 69 RBIs in 1973, amid clashes with management. Tatum appeared in one Boston game with a walk-heavy line. Wise had gone 16-12 with a 3.34 ERA for St. Louis in 1973, while Carbo hit .250 with eight homers and 41 RBIs for the Cards.

Tug McGraw saved New York Mets 2-0 win over Oakland Athletics to push the Series back to Oakland with the Mets ahead three games to two. McGraw faced bases loaded, struck out Angel Mangual and Bert Campaneris, then locked down the ninth, securing the victory and boosting his season tally of saves.
Gene Tenace grudgingly conceded the Mets hold a 3-2 series lead after Oakland’s 2-0 loss in New York. He said, if facing Mets pitchers all year, he’d hit them, but acknowledged paper strength means little in this series. Williams praised Mets pitching while lamenting Oakland’s lack of runs.
