The Associated Press reports the National Weather Service says the weather pattern will be steady with little change in sky conditions or temperatures. Skies have been fair the last days.
Hope Star reports warm weekend forecast with sunny mild conditions and highs near 80 in Arkansas. Overnight lows range from upper 40s to mid 50s with no rain statewide. Local temperatures list: Pine Bluff 49 El Dorado 48 Texarkana 53 Fayetteville 45 Harrison 51 Little Rock 50 Jonesboro 49 Memphis 50 Fort Smith 45. Also includes weather station data: high 76 low 42 for 24 hours ending 7 a.m. Friday.

Washington AP reports new scabies outbreaks in cattle across Iowa Nebraska and Indiana with earlier cases in the Southwest prompting quarantines in New Mexico and Texas Panhandle. Officials say many Midwest cases come from cattle shipped from the Southwest and cautioned ongoing watch over the next months. In 1971 a wider quarantine program restricted movement without inspection or dipping to prevent spread. Scabies weakens cattle and causes revenue losses despite not usually being fatal.
An Arkansas Energy Forum hearing is scheduled for November 6 at 10 a.m. in the state Capitol Little Rock to decide if two proposed coal fired plants are needed. AP&L seeks an $850 million plant near Redfield while Southwestern Electric Power and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives propose a $200 million plant near Gentry. PSC hearings begin November 16 on AP&L's request. date for the second plant is not yet set.

Arkadelphia attorney Wayne R. Williams pleaded innocent in Miller County Circuit Court to charges of false pretenses and bribery. He filed a motion to quash the amended information arguing lack of county residence on Sept 10. Williams, free on $100,000 bond, was previously charged with grand larceny later amended to false pretenses, with bribery information filed Oct 10. The case involves Frank Wheat of Crossett and questions circuit court jurisdiction.
