The Leo Club sponsored by Hope Lions Club conducts a rummage sale Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the former Walker's Used Furniture site on Main Street between American Jeans and Greening-Ellis. Lions are asked to contribute clothing, household items, jewelry, toys and other salable goods, delivered 9 a.m. to noon on the sale day. The event supports youth service activities and leadership development.

The Alaska Supreme Court has taken under advisement a case challenging marijuana laws in a potential U S landmark. Anchorage attorney Irwin Ravin argues private use restrictions violate liberty privacy and due process, citing national statistics and urging the court to require a compelling public interest before prohibition. The state counters privacy is broad and defers to legislative judgment. The court has six months to rule.
Reliable sources say Honduran Foreign Minister Cesar Batres and several cabinet ministers submitted resignations to President Oswaldo Lopez Arellano over alleged mishandling of relief efforts after Hurricane Fifi.
