CHERRY POINT N C AP nine Marines were killed when a Gulfstream TC4C trainer crashed shortly after takeoff. The jet burned on impact and an investigation into the cause began. Names of the four crewmen, an instructor, and four students were withheld pending notification of relatives.

Vinson Construction Low Bid on City Sewer Project

Vinson Construction Company of Cabot Arkansas was the low bidder for a two mile sewer line project to extend city services to residents in the city park area. Sealed bids were opened by consulting engineer Joe Fox at 2 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall. The bid totals show Vinson at $99,368 with Morris Herring Co. at $99,165 and Ronco following.

Manhunt canceled in Arkansas after escapee goes missing

MAGNOLIA Ark AP the manhunt for the last Columbia County Jail escapee has been canceled as authorities believe he is out of state. Eight prisoners escaped early Saturday two have been captured leaving Joe L Wyrick at large and the others in custody. Burton and Hinton were arrested Tuesday in Falcon Nevada County at Burton's mother's home with officers from three counties involved. Wyrick faced armed robbery and possession of stolen property charges.
