A weak cold front moved through Arkansas late Wednesday and stalled in the southeast. Showers and isolated thundershowers accompanied its passage. A tropical depression moving north from the Gulf combines with the front to produce heavy rains over Louisiana and Mississippi.
Weather forecast for southeastern Arkansas highlights rain with thundershowers likely today, ending Friday morning. Highs 69 to mid 80s. overnight lows from 43 to 67. At the Pacific International Livestock Exposition, seven rounds in Portland show John Forbes of Kaycee grabbing 70 points for Paradise Valley in saddle bronc leading the field. Larry Jordan and Mel Hyland trail with 68 and 67 points respectively. Scotty Platts tops bareback bronc with 72, followed by Russell McCall and T. J. Walters. Denny Flynn leads bull riding with 72, with John Davis close at 71 and Gary Bruh and Roy Carter tied at 70. Jeff Coppenhaver trails in calf roping.
Reg Dene Kiwanis governor inducted Hope Club officers for the new year beginning October 1 during a Ladies Night at the Sheraton Inn. Bob Willis succeeds as president with Teddy Jones as secretary and Bill Otis as treasurer. The first project is Halloween Trick or Treat candy sales, with profits supporting Kiwanis youth work and the Golden Age Club. Local trio from Unity Baptist Church sang selections.
Washington AP says despite long investigations the Watergate prosecution team left key questions unanswered. Washington AP reports the main outline of the 1977 federal budget should be decided within a month. Budget Director James T. Lynn says agency heads will review spending, including entitlements, with OMB. If no agreement, heads can appeal to the President. Ford urges Congress to accept a budget ceiling and tax cuts, citing potential shifts in entitlements and economic expectations. The Commerce Department notes August inventories rose by 1.3 billion, signaling production up and jobs potential rising.
Investigators found no sufficient evidence for criminal charges in the case against California Lt. Gov. Ed Reinecke. They also could not establish that White House operatives responsible for the Chilean embassy break in 1972 or other burglaries targeted hostile to the Nixon administration.

A cluster of death notices from Hope Prescott and Camden Arkansas recounts Allie B Malone 76 of Hope dying October 15 1975 in Hope hospital with funeral at Herndon Funeral Home Chapel. Other obituaries include Thorgan E Lewis 73 of Prescott and Pauline Nutt Pittman 64 of Prescott with services and burial in local cemeteries. Joe Thomas Martin 71 of Camden. L C Jester of Burdett. and Tabitha Davidson 80 of DeQueen with church memberships and survivor details.
Archaeologists in Carnac Brittany report discovery of tombs dating to around 2000 B.C. along with several displaced monuments. Excavation teams from a regional museum confirm multiple megalithic structures at the site.
