Arkansas Weather Forecast Sees Showers Likely Midweek

The National Weather Service reports a cold front from Minnesota to Texas Panhandle will bring a 30 percent chance of showers tonight in northwest Arkansas and 40 percent statewide on Wednesday. Expect mild, warm temperatures with highs in the 70s to low 80s and cooler nights. Rainfall has been sparse recently, with Little Rock recording less than an inch in four weeks. Wind may rise this afternoon, and lake wind warnings could appear in the northwest. The outlook calls for rain Thursday and fair conditions Friday through Saturday.

Jason White turns 5 under hospital care in Texarkana

Jason White, aged five, celebrates a hospital birthday in Room 331 Wadley Hospital Texarkana where he has spent half his life. His parents Ed and Sarah White moved from Hope for near him. he endures a rare stomach disorder and relies on hyperalimentation via heart tube and an experimental drug from Berkeley. He recently survived a fever 108 degrees and bravely bounces back. Union gains in government and female labor force noted by The Conference Board. Over 20 per cent of national union members are government workers and 25 per cent are women. Federal workers gain bargaining rights after an executive order.

Special fund aids Hempstead County children in need

Last year 228 Hempstead County children received help from the Underprivileged Children's Fund, run by the Hempstead County United Fund and administered by the Hope Junior Auxiliary. Volunteers will seek over $34,000 during October to support food, clothing, and medical services for needy children.

Seven Arrested Near Louisville School Demonstration

In Louisville Kentucky seven people were arrested during a nighttime anti desegregation busing demonstration near Pleasure Ridge Park High School. No injuries were reported as shots were fired toward police and participants. Earlier about 600 protesters gathered near Fern Creek High urging motorists to honk in opposition to busing.
