The Associated Press reports Arkansas weather will be partly cloudy and warmer into Friday. The outlook adds a chance of showers in northeast Arkansas on Saturday. The National Weather Service expects a fall pattern by Sunday and Monday.
Hope Star reports cooler weather on the horizon with highs in the 60s and 50s, dropping to the 30s by Sunday and Monday. A high pressure system over Missouri shifts southeast, bringing drier air and a weekend chill, with overnight lows ranging from 37 to 53 across several towns. An experiment station reading shows 78 high and 50 low.
Outlook notes mostly clear skies with light winds and seasonally mild temperatures. Local observers report calm early morning conditions and rising afternoon temperatures across Hempstead Nevada Lafayette Howard Pike and Clark counties.
The Associated Press reports clear skies across the nation, though the Rockies see scattered showers. Clouds dimmed sun in the Great Lakes region, New England and Washington. New England records the coldest temperatures, while most areas stay in the 40s to 60s overnight.
Fairfax police said Joan Kennedy, wife of Sen. Edward Kennedy, was charged with driving under the influence after her convertible struck the rear of a car stopped for a street light on Route 123. The incident involved three vehicles with about $1,400 in damages, and investigators noted no evidence of serious injuries or flight.

Funeral services were held today in Texarkana for Horace C Elledge 55 who died Wednesday in a Texarkana hospital. Surviving are his wife Gayle a daughter Leslie son and his mother brothers and sisters. Burial was at Memorial Gardens Texarkana. Also reported were obituaries of Clyde C Williams 93 explorer and author and Joseph Roisman 74 first violinist of the Budapest String Quartet who died at home. both noted by AP.
American diplomat Barbara Hutchison and six other hostages were released unharmed after 13 days at the Venezuelan consulate in Santo Domingo. The six gunmen demanded a ransom and prisoner releases but fled the Dominican Republic on a special jet to Panama, declaring victory. Hutchison said she will continue her USIS work in the Dominican Republic.
The Hope Lions Club starts its annual light bulb sale Monday October 14 at 5 p.m. In Hope and Hempstead County more than 100 Lions will go door to door offering packages of six bulbs. Each package contains two 80 watt two 75 watt and two 100 watt bulbs and sells for $2. About 600 bulbs will be sold by 16 Lions teams.
Hundreds march through downtown Saigon in the largest anti Thieu protest in three years. Police beat Western newsmen covering the event as splinter Buddhist groups protest near the National Assembly. at least six demonstrators are hospitalized, including a nun with a broken leg, while journalists suffer injuries from plainclothes officers. The protest began with Vietnamese journalists objecting to a government press decree allowing newspaper confiscations, drawing in opposition politicians students Roman Catholics and Buddhists to swell the crowd to about 1,000.
Mrs Justine Hamm of Hope received a framed certificate posthumously for her son Arch M Ellington of Atlanta Texas who died two months ago. The award cites his exceptional service in the Order of the Arrow with his Indian name Walihan He Who Does Good for Others.
