Drier air to spread across Arkansas this week

The Associated Press reports drier air moving into Arkansas this afternoon through Wednesday with scattered light rain earlier today in the northwest and northcentral portions. The National Weather Service notes precipitation came from a weak upper air low pressure trough.

Murder charge filed in Springdale wife’s shooting death

SPRINGDALE Ark AP Dale Eugene Fields 31 of Springdale was charged with second degree murder Monday in the shooting death Saturday of his wife Barbara Jean Fields 28 Fields pleaded innocent Monday afternoon when his trial was set for Dec 2 Fields was in Washington County Jail in lieu of 20000 bond Police said Mrs Fields died at a Fayetteville hospital after being shot in the head with a 22 caliber pistol at the couple s Springdale home

Governor Bumpers cites safety concerns on nuclear plants

Arkansas Governor Dale Bumpers told Seiya Nishida the nuclear plants pose serious safety risks. He warned an explosion at Arkansas Power & Light near Russellville could kill everything 50 miles downwind. He said the remark was a general concept, not aimed at the Russellville plant, and he has not discussed it with AP&L officials.

Former Hope resident shot to death in Alabama robbery

Robert Don Cox 41 formerly of Hope was shot to death during a robbery at his Exxon Oil Co. job in Birmingham Alabama on Monday. He was Church of Christ and Henderson State College graduate. Surviving are wife Louise Words Cox and daughters Donna and Beverly, all of Birmingham, and mother Spinos Cox of Hope. Body to be returned to Herndon Funeral Home for services and burial. time to be announced.

Hope Federal shows higher year gains in 1974 report

Hope Federal reports net savings gains totaling 2,600,965.51 as of October 4 1974 compared with 2,682,197 for all of 1973. Past years show steady growth with 847,000 in 1971 and 1,630,000 in 1972, and president Fred O. Ellis predicts an all time new net savings record with three months remaining in 1974.
