The Associated Press reports fair skies across Arkansas tonight with cooler temperatures. The National Weather Service foresees fair conditions and mild temperatures tonight and Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies and isolated showers mainly in the northeast.
A historical note explains that Solomon's Temple stood for four centuries until Nebuchadnezzar's destruction and that the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem is not a remnant of Solomon's fence but of a later structure built on the same site by Herod.
Nine Hope Junior Auxiliary members joined Region V National Association of Junior Auxiliaries at Hot Springs on October 3. The First Baptist Church hosted with regional director Mrs. F G Larrimore leading the business session. Charles Griffee spoke on Arkansas Children's Hospital project. workshops followed led by national president and officers. luncheon at Holiday Inn Lake Hamilton. Hot Springs Madrigal Singers provided entertainment. Hope attendees included Mrs. Kenneth Paddie and others.
Acting Governor George Ariyoshi won the Democratic nomination in Hawaii over Frank Fasi and Thomas Gill, advancing to face Randolph Crossley in November. Crossley led the Republican primary by a wide margin, while Sen. Daniel Inouye secured renomination without opposition.
Pearl Moses Garner 86 died Sunday in a local hospital. She taught in First Baptist Church Sunday school for 48 years and is survived by one daughter Opal Hervey of Hope, a brother Harley Moses of Corinth, four sisters, and other relatives. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Herndon Funeral Home chapel. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery. Also: Mrs. Monroe Kent 72 died Saturday in a Texarkana hospital. Services were held and burial at Macedonia Cemetery. Clyde R. Pruitt 81 died Friday. services at Liberty Nazarene Church. Burial Liberty Cemetery. Survivors include wife Mary Elizabeth, two sons, two sisters, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Burial by Cornish Funeral Service of Prescott.
Moon Se kwang tells a Seoul court he aimed to kill President Park to advance a Communist revolution in South Korea. He said he acted on a Japanese resident’s orders, expressed remorse for Mrs Park’s death, and denied intending her harm. He faces murder and rebellion charges with possible death penalty.
President Ford phoned Kansas wheat country during a grand opening in Otis where Clarence Ochs and about 1,500 farmers heard of the cancellation of 500 million dollars in U.S. grain exports to the Soviet Union. Senator Bob Dole relayed farmers’ dissatisfaction and urged possible renegotiation or delayed delivery.
