Unidentified gunmen in a speeding car gunned down Juan Maria de Araluce y Villar a member of King Juan Carlos advisory council in San Sebastian Basque Country. A driver and a police inspector were also killed in the attack. Araluce 59 a member of the Council of the Realm and former Guipuzcoa government head had received threats from ETA. The assassination followed a general strike demanding amnesty for political prisoners and marked the first anniversary of the government's execution of five guerrillas.
