The Associated Press reports Arkansas should be partly cloudy and warmer through Friday. The extended outlook calls for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms Sunday, with the National Weather Service noting a warm trend.
A large high centered in central Indiana ridges southwestward across Arkansas producing clear skies and cooler temperatures in Hope and surrounding areas. Temperatures near record lows early, then warming as air mass moderates. Rainfall reported only in Harrison at 0.07 inches. overnight lows ranged from 34 in Calico Rock to 47 in Texarkana.
Sixty eight Razorback fans leave Hope Saturday by two buses to see the TCU game in Fort Worth then head to Dallas to spend the night. Sunday afternoon they plan to watch the Dallas Cowboys versus the Minnesota Vikings at Texas Stadium before returning to Hope. Departure is 12 30 p m Saturday from Division and Elm Street. Ozarks Grants LITTLE ROCK AP Grants totaling 627000 for four Arkansas projects were approved by the Ozarks Regional Commission Wednesday. The grants include one for the propos bust this.
At Town and Country Tuesday the Kiwanis Club began its new administrative year with Rufus Herndon III presiding. He outlined committee appointments and a program of work across four subcommittees while urging members to take on responsibilities for Club Meetings Youth Services Citizenship Services and Major Emphasis Programs. Guests included Rev. William F. Shell Finley Bostic Clay O'Steen and Scott Moore of local Key Club.
The city allocated $40,000 to match a federal grant of $40,000 from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. With the funds, the Department remodeled the swimming pool and built three new tennis courts. A further $20,000 special allocation targets potential purchases of 80 acres south and 120 acres west of Fair Park for future use.
Funeral services for Pvt Linda Irene Willis 23 held at County Line Baptist Church Stamps with military honors. She died Sunday in a Texarkana hospital survived by parents and many relatives. Also noted were services for B J Sharp of Lockesburg and Chester C Martin of Hooks with burials in local cemeteries and multiple survivors.
Cambodian government troops reported driving Khmer Rouge insurgents two miles back from Kompong Chhnang, with armored units killing about 30 rebels as fighting pushed west and northwest of the provincial capital. Rebels still held a six mile stretch of Highway 5 north of the town as another government column moved to engage.
Mrs Betty Umpers announces appointment of Mrs Paul Henley as Hempstead county chairman for the Every Child In ’74 immunization program. The plan targets about 85 000 Arkansas children under five with weekend and evening clinics run by the county health office. Other task force members include Mrs Donking Mrs Inez Turner Miss Dolores McBride Mr Calvin Caldwell and Sgt Claud Byrd.
ACMET sponsors a traveling Razorback seminar for laboratory personnel at Rodeway Inn October 5 with registration 8:30 to 9 a.m. Luncheon included. fees are 10 dollars for laboratorians and 4 dollars for students and guests. Talks by Arkansas medical leaders and university staff cover national state and local lab topics.
The Dominican government suspended talks with terrorists holding American diplomat Barbara Hutchison and six others in the Venezuelan Consulate. Archbishop Hugo Polanco Brito, the go-between, did not return, and police said there would be no more negotiations. Authorities warned the terrorists that they would be met with firmness if they stayed inflexible.
All Around Town reports Kinard Young of Hope selected as representative from his district to the Chevrolet Dealer Council. He will serve as spokesman for 15 dealers at an October meeting in Memphis zone headquarters. Council terms run two years.
