Abortionist Hightower Convicted in Little Rock Case

Pulaski County Circuit Court jurors found 76 year old Al C. Hightower guilty of attempting to induce an abortion on a 19 year old University of Arkansas Little Rock student at his residence. He faces a $1000 fine and three years in state prison. Judge Adkisson set appeal bond at $5000, with Hightower remaining free on his existing $5000 bond. The accuser testified she paid $500 for the procedure. A separate note mentions West Point attendance figures for visitors.

Lions hear talk on animals and health

The Hope Lions Club met at Town and Country restaurant for a public health program led by Dr. Harvie R. Ellis state health department veterinarian. Hope club to host chicken spaghetti supper for scholarship fund

The Hope Business and Professional Women's Club will hold a chicken spaghetti supper 5 to 7 30 p m Friday in the high school cafeteria. Proceeds go to the club scholarship fund. Tickets cost 1 75 for adults and 75 cents for students and may be bought from any member or at the door. An oak tree at 506 West 16th St draws attention with one yellow leaf among green. Patricia Burke, senior at Hope High, is chosen for Who's Who Among American High School Students 1973 74 and plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University. James N Nutt of Mineral Springs joins 21 law students at University of Arkansas School of Law on the Arkansas Law Review. The 10th annual Country Arts and Handicraft Show will be October 4 5 6 at the Community Center Building in Mandeville on Highway 67 between Fulton and Texarkana. Exhibits include woodcarving, china, jewelry, quilts, ceramics, and more. admission is free.

Robert L. Searcy Jr. dies. services held in Lewisville

Robert Lionel Searcy Jr. died Monday in a Little Rock hospital and was laid to rest in Wilson Cemetery after services in Lewisville. He held degrees from the University of Arkansas and University of Virginia, was with the law firm Search and Search, and led First National Bank of Lewisville as president and chairman. Survivors include two daughters Miriam Candler Searcy and Rosemary Searcy Campbell, plus four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mills Denies Knowledge of Dairy Funds Tied to Draft Mills

AP reports Tuesday that a key dairy official testified Rep. Wilbur Mills knew about a 1971 dairy cooperative gift to the Draft Mills for President campaign, a claim argued to be erroneous. The Watergate Committee draft report said the testimony referred to a June 1972 context. Dr. George Mehren of AMPI testified CTAPE made the gift.

Bed-ridden woman dies in Little Rock house fire

In Pulaski County a bed ridden woman Ollie Bea Reddicks died when a coal oil lantern exploded, engulfing a one room house. Minnie Harris, who lived with her, escaped but could not reach the 103 year old as flames spread in the wood framed structure without utilities.
