Contradictions in Southern Industrial Growth and Tax Policy
A reader notes paradox in Southern industrial plans under high income taxes. Northern firms may expand as branches while new Southern companies struggle without access to capital. The piece cites Veeck on profit, taxation, and state policy, contrasting past tariffs with present tax burdens and fears for local development. It recalls Mudd’s critique of New Deal taxes draining Southern investment and mocks centralized plans that hinder local growth.
