Arkansas Weather Forecast For Friday Update

The Associated Press reports Arkansas will have fair weather with temperatures edging higher through Friday. The National Weather Service notes little or no rain replacing Saturday into Monday as a high pressure ridge sits over the south, with centers over Louisiana and Colorado guiding the mild to warmer trend.

Eight escape Norman jail

In Norman Oklahoma police report eight inmates escaped the city county jail after two trusties overpowered a jailer with a knife at about 9 30 am freeing six others. The escapees include Jack Furbee 19 and Dean Vierre ther Jr 20 who held weapons and fled south.

Army weighs cuts to defense plants amid job losses

Pentagon sources say the Army nears a decision to cut back or close about six major facilities including depots and an arsenal, risking thousands of jobs as inflation erodes the defense budget. Hope woman named Alcohol Counseling Services director

Mrs Robin Moore of Hope was named director of Alcohol Counseling Services as Southwest Arkansas moves to expand alcohol abuse prevention and treatment. The conference in Hot Springs on November 14 15 led to a state wide Data Management and Control Program with regional representatives and experts from multiple universities and agencies. Motorist Dies In I-30 One Car Crash Near Benton Arkansas

State Police report Roger Venerable aged 44 of near Cobden Illinois was killed in a one car wreck on Interstate 30 one mile east of Benton Arkansas. The vehicle ran along the median and struck the lower part of an overpass structure after leaving the highway.

PBA agrees to pause Capitol Mall construction plan

The Arkansas Public Building Authority agreed to delay further Capitol Mall work to allow the General Assembly to review the situation. Executive director Donald V. Allen said delaying was the plan, while Pulaski County Chancellor Darrell Hickman halted all non-parking lot work. The PBA appealed to the state Supreme Court for a quick ruling, as Sen. Max Howell questioned rushing the appeal amid housing slowdowns and rising costs for labor and materials.
