Experts see better times for cattlemen
Washington AP reports that after years of financial strain the cattle industry may gain profit and stability next year as herd reductions reduce oversupply. Beef prices are rising, with a predicted retail average of about 1.49 per pound in 1977, up from 1.39 in 1976, signaling a more stable market ahead. The outlook notes high feed costs previously hurt profitability and that cattle numbers have fallen. A separate brief announces Dr Kenneth Mortimer named director of Penn State’s Center for the Study of Higher Education.
