The National Weather Service forecasts showers and thunderstorms spreading across Arkansas this afternoon and tonight. Locally heavy rainfall is possible with some storms producing strong winds. Rain chances run 70 to 80 percent statewide tonight.
Forecast cites a strong cold front moving into the Plains bringing rapid temperature drops and heavy snow in places. Arkansas potential thaw after front passes with highs in the 50s to 60s and lows in the 20s to 40s by Friday, with rainfall minimal and no statewide snow expected.

Roxie Ann Almond died at 94 in Nevada County. Survivors include four sons and a daughter. Funeral at Laneburg Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, burial in Laneburg cemetery, Cornish Mortuary in charge. Earl N. Martindale of Nashville died at 79. Funeral at Latimer Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday, burial in Ozan cemetery, with Rev. Wilson and Rev. Bean officiating.
An Arkansas Game and Fish official says the duck hunting season starts today with good prospects. Aerial surveys show most ducks on private rice fields and on reservoirs, with some still feeding on wildlife management areas having ample water.
