Cuban Troops Boost MPLA in Angolan Civil War

About 1,000 Cuban combat troops have been flown into Luanda to assist the Soviet backed MPLA army in Angola, with an estimated 1,500 more Cuban infantry and advisers sent in recent weeks. The MPLA plans a northern offensive toward Carmona while facing FNLA forces near Luanda. Earl N Martindale 79 died in Hope hospital. Services were at Latimer Funeral Home with burial in Ozan cemetery. He is survived by wife Addie two sons, a brother, three sisters, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Co workers pay tribute to Franklin memorial award renamed

The Thiokol Huntsville plant renames its annual technical achievement award to the RK D Franklin Memorial Award after Franklin, production plant manager, who died July 6 1975 in Florida. James M Stone announced the change at the October 28 management club meeting. Franklin, 45, had worked 20 years for Thiokol Huntsville and was a graduate of Hope High School and the University of Arkansas. His widow and three children live in Huntsville. His mother resides in Hope. The Huntsville division had won the 1974 award for using fine particle aluminum oxide as a combustion catalyst and stabilizer.
