The Associated Press reports continued fair and mild weather in Arkansas through today and much of Wednesday as a high pressure system sits over the western Atlantic. The National Weather Service expects a chance of showers in the northwest and western parts of the state tonight.

Washington AP reports American farmers yield a record rice crop while Asian harvests also hit new highs. USDA notes global output around 4 percent above last year’s 328 million metric tons, led by India Indonesia and Bangladesh. U.S. crop about 5.6 million tons with 9 percent rise from 1974. Asia’s rising consumption keeps stock rebuilding limited.
The Hope Lions Club met at the Sheraton Inn to hear club activity plans and reports from members in hospitals. Guests included Bill Johnson of Little Rock and Claude Loughma, introduced by Lions Prescott and Cagle respectively. The group toured Fair Park to view progress on converting the city shop building into a youth and civic center, funded by senior class savings and last year’s Christmas Auction proceeds.
Generalissimo Francisco Franco, 82, endured a fresh abdominal bleed at dawn in Madrid. Doctors reported bleeding controlled but not halted ten hours later. blood transfusions and ongoing discussions of another operation followed. His chief surgeon and other specialists were summoned. Alfonso de Borbón y Dampierre, husband of Franco’s granddaughter, was also called to La Paz Hospital.
Community notices list ESAA joint meeting at Hope High School Reading Lab on November 20 at 7 30 p m chaired by Miss Marion Ogden. Other items include Southside Baptist Church bazaar and rummage sale this Friday and Saturday, Grace Baptist Church bus ministry expansion, and a November 20 Southwest Criminal Justice Planning Council luncheon at Trade Winds. Also reports for duty for Marine Corporal Ricky A Neal, stockholders meeting at Ouachita PAC, FHA officer installation at Hope High, Watermelon City CB Club meeting November 20 at Holiday Inn, and obituaries for Harold H Fisher and Robert C Sherriff.
John Henry McClendon, 42, of near Little Rock, was fatally shot under the chin Monday night at Walter McIntosh’s residence in the College Station area. McIntosh is jailed on murder charges after an earlier disturbance at the address. a pistol was found near McClendon’s body. The report also notes Arkansas adopted the apple blossom as state flower on January 20.
The Senate intelligence committee agreed to delete the name of a former CIA official tied to plots against foreign leaders from its final report. Public hearings on FBI surveillance of Americans followed as lawyers argued publication could endanger the individual's life. An appeals court hearing was canceled after mootness was declared by counsel for Anonymous.
In Greenville Mississippi officials and Coast Guard officers continued hearings into two fatal oil barge explosions that killed four Brent Towing Co. workers including Rex Buckley. Testimony highlighted welding permits, on board oil on the deck, and required notifications before repairs, with the inquiry expected to run at least three days. Separately Michael Ayrton, noted sculptor and designer, died at 54 in London.
Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Boyd 81 were held at Oakcrest chapel with burial in Memory Gardens. She died Sunday in a local hospital leaving a son Volmer V. Boyd and daughters Sybil Griffith and Faye Hill with ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Clarice Hare Kizzia 79, mother of Mrs. E. R. Lone, died Sunday in Murfreesboro. Services were at First United Methodist Church with burial in Kelley cemetery. She lived in Murfreesboro and was native of Oklahoma. survivors include Fred and Cooper Kizzia, daughters Mrs. Fred Blacks and Mrs. Lary Walker, brother William Hare, sister Mrs. Robert Pierce, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Ken Williams named manager of the Pitt Grill on Highway 29. A 1964 Hope High School graduate, he previously ran Kay-Dub Catering of Dallas and worked at American Bank and Trust in Irving. He studied at University of Houston Marriott School and attends SMU. He and his wife Sue have two children.
Da vid Powell Wilkerson twenty two of North Little Rock died in a one vehicle wreck on Arkansas 10 near the Pulaski Perry county line when the pickup driven by Terry Eugene Ellison also of North Little Rock veered after Ellison reportedly fell asleep. Ellison and passenger James Jones twenty four were hospitalized in Little Rock. Alexander Vinogradov aged eighty a famed geochemist and vice president of the Soviet Academy of Sciences died in Moscow after leading Moscow's Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. no cause or time given.
