United States Senator Wesley L. Jones, 69, long-time prohibition advocate and author of the five and ten enforcement law, died in Seattle after losing re election to Homer T. Bone. His 1929 law imposed five year jail terms and $10,000 fines for liquor offenses.
Mrs. Walter Wright longtime Hope resident died at Missouri Pacific hospital in Little Rock at 5 am Saturday. Funeral plans uncertain. expected service at First Methodist Church with Dr J L Cannon. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Survived by husband three daughters Dorothy Mary Betty Jean and son Samuel mother Mrs J H Andrews two brothers Andrew Andrews and Will Andrews and sister Mrs Ernest Fairbee.
Prohibitionist Raymond Robins, missing since September after failing to meet President Hoover, was located in Whittier North Carolina. He is believed to suffer amnesia but remains in sound physical condition and under medical care. Prohibition agents identified him from a photo and notified authorities to bring him to a sanitarium for evaluation.
Dr. W R Anderson longtime Hope Presbyterian pastor died at 11 Friday night from a heart attack while on a Grassy Lake hunting trip He was 64 The funeral will be Sunday at 10 at Hope First Presbyterian with Rev J C William officiating Burial Monday at 2 30 in Palmyra Missouri He is survived by his widow two brothers and two sisters including J M Anderson and T L Anderson The body will accompany Mrs Anderson and relatives to Palmyra for burial He chaired Hope projects including the Chamber of Commerce Rotary Southwest Arkansas Fair Red Cross United Charities and helped design the city hall grounds

Conway Arkansas J C Daw son Faulkner county representative will seek repeal of the poll tax voting requirement and replace it with a voters registration system at the coming session. He also proposes other changes in state election laws.
Dr J L Cannon of the First Methodist church left Hope Saturday noon for Ben Lomond Arkansas to attend the funeral of his aunt Mrs H M Bell who died Friday afternoon at 6 o clock She is past 80 years old Cannon planned to return to Hope Saturday night.
Evansville bank robbery ends with a lone bandit escaping with fifteen thousand dollars after wounding a messenger carrying the money to the West Side branch of the old National Bank.
The G. T. Cross family has moved to a residence on Green ing street in Hope. Mr. Cross has been named Hempstead county agent for the Mutual Life Insurance Company. J. T. Thompson of Little Rock arranged the agency transfer after visiting Hope. Cross comes from Magnolia and has a long record in chamber work and civic roles including Batesville secretaryships and leadership in Red Cross, Kiwanis, and country clubs.
The Rev. W. E. Testerman urged Kiwanis members to back Boy Scout work as a means to build character. The talk cited Scout oaths and laws, stressing physical, mental, and moral discipline. Dr. Frank Pickell led the program, G. T. Cross was named Mutual Life Insurance rep, and club plans shifted the November meeting to Tuesday with a postmeeting film. Harvey Barr will lead next week’s program. A directors’ meeting will elect a secretary.
Colombo reports that Ceylon, once tax free, must impose a 5 percent income tax. The levy is estimated to yield about 1.75 million dollars for the government.
Washington reports an extraordinary Saturday meeting led by Secretary Mills of the Treasury to discuss a budget that will exceed the $4,135,000,000 total of the prior year. Mills told Chairman Burns that the station would submit figures after a cabinet session with Chapin Wilbur Doak and Roop amid renewed study of budget problems facing Congress next month.
