The Associated Press reports continued mild, sunny conditions for Arkansas through Tuesday as high pressure in Alabama and Colorado keeps skies mostly clear. Southerly winds bring warm air while upper level moisture remains scarce. An upper level disturbance in Oklahoma is moving across the region.
The Hope Star lists weather outlook for Arkansas with partly cloudy skies and possible showers as a cold front nears, showing highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s, plus a city-by-city overnight low chart. Mrs. Alice Boyd aged 81 died Sunday in a local hospital. A lifelong Hope resident and Baptist Church member, she is survived by son Volmer W. Boyd of Eureka California. daughters Sybil Griffith of Hope and Faye Hill of Houston. six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakcrest chapel with Rev. Kenneth Grant officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens under Oakcrest Funeral Home direction.
A Senate agriculture subcommittee opens a second round of hearings on revamping the food stamp program. Leonard Woodcock, Puerto Rico Governor Rafael Hernandez Colon, and New Jersey Governor Brendan Byrne are among expected witnesses as about 100 officials and liberal groups prepare to testify before Thursday. The session follows a first week dominated by federal officials and conservatives, amid a 3.8 million surge in program rolls from fall to spring and a peak of 19.6 million in April. Extensions to Puerto Rico and cost concerns remain central as Ford administration officials return to defend plans to trim eligibility to save about 1.2 billion dollars yearly.
The Arkansas Supreme Court ordered further proceedings in John O. May's suit for compensation as North Little Rock City Council member, denied after an abortion conviction. The court upheld dismissal against Edwards but sent the Edwards claim back for circuit court consideration, noting res judicata may end May's pursuit.

Independent Pallet Growers Association meets November 18 at Farm Bureau office on South Main Street.
The ABA screening panel completed the first stage of reviewing 12 names to replace Justice Douglas and will continue investigations. Warren Christopher said the panel returns home for background checks, with no timetable for recommendations to Levi or Ford. Senate majority leader hopes the President will nominate a woman and may influence later selections. The committee had until after midnight in Los Angeles and may not meet again.
