Staff chief hints at breaking Jewish influence over policy

Gen. George S. Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, suggested a renewed Arab oil embargo could spur Americans to confront Jewish influence, saying Jews own banks and newspapers and control Congress. Pentagon and White House officials acknowledged the remarks but Brown defended himself, noting no policy shift and no intent to insult.

Retired Federal Employees to discuss social security bills

Wayman C. Smith, president of the Arkansas Federation of Chapters, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, will visit Hope on November 15 to discuss legislation affecting Civil Service retirees and annuitants. Father of poisoned child pleads innocent

Ronald C. O Bryan, an optician, pleaded innocent to charges he poisoned his eight year old son Timothy to collect $61,000 in life insurance. He faces capital murder charges with possible death penalty if convicted.

Area historical finds topic of Kiwanis program

Dr. Frank Schambach of Southern State College spoke at the Kiwanis meeting about excavations near Emmet on the Carroll Ferguson farm. Over three years about two acres yielded evidence of a 9000 year old civilization, with larger mounds for ceremonies and smaller for priests. Volunteers from 30 states assisted the Emmet dig.

Rockefeller facing questions over legalities of loans and gifts to campaigns in 1957 to 1974 totaling 3.26 million dollars. Jo Ann Pine to lead Hempstead retardation drive

Jo Ann Pine, a Hempstead Association for Retarded Citizens board member, named campaign chairman for National Retarded Citizens Month. Arafat Threat Prompts NYC Lockdown And PLO Arrival

Arafat rested after threats to assassinate him at a Monday news conference. Russell Kelner of the JDL warned of trained men who would ensure Arafat and his lieutenants did not leave New York alive. FBI arrested Kelner on interstate threats with bail set at 100000 dollars for a November hearing. Police dispersed crowds as 16 PLO members stayed at the Waldorf Towers with Khaddoumi arriving in a 20 car convoy. Police dogs and a helicopter secured the area while PLO spokesmen framed the visit as a major diplomatic move.

Hartsfield Earns Place in Who's Who Among High School Students

Mike Hartsfield a senior at Hope High School is chosen for Who's Who Among American High School Students 1973 1974. The publication recognizes leadership in academics athletics activities or community service from over 20 000 schools and less than 3 percent receive the honor. He is Beta Club Quill and Scroll NHS president and associate editor of Hi Lights. He will compete for scholarships of 500 to 1000 and may join the Survey of High Achievers. He plans to attend Texas Lutheran College after graduation in May.
