Coronary Care Course Creates Considerable Interest at Hempstead Memorial

The Coronary Care Course at Hempstead Memorial Hospital draws nurses from all shifts to study cardiac care and emergency procedures. Since 1962, when the first unit began, many states have started similar programs, with Arkansas' first unit in Hot Springs in 1964. Four RN's were sent to Little Rock for training, who then organized 36 hours of classes for RN's and LPN's, averaging 20 nurses per session. Administrator Don Abbott expects renovation for monitoring equipment and the coronary care unit to be finished by January, expanding local medical services.
