System brings shower probabilities across the east

A low pressure center in Oklahoma drove showers and scattered heavy thundershowers across the eastern region of Al kafises and adjacent areas in Tennessee and Mississippi. The system lingered near stationary through the night, causing significant rainfall totals. Denise fog formed in parts of the state with visibilities dropping to zero.

Hope Star weather outlook and rates notice

Skies were forecast to be early cloudy across much of the state with showers possible from a weakening Oklahoma system. Rain chances 20 to 30 percent today into Friday, highs mid to upper 70s, lows near 50s to mid 60s. Also included are circulation notes, editorial staff, and subscription prices for the Hope Star.

Brookwood PTA to Hold First Official Meeting

Brookwood School will host its first official PTA meeting at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria on November 10. An open house on October 6 drew a large crowd as the PTA reorganized with officer elections discussed at an October 14 meeting.

Exchange Student Leena Lehtonen Joins Hope Family

Leena Lehtonen, an exchange student from Espoo Finland, lives with Mr and Mrs Clay Lehman in Hope Arkansas under the Youth for Understanding program. She arrived August 11 and fits with the Lehman family as if sisters, with matching interests cataloged in a computer system.

Scout executive outlines fundraising and reach gaps in area

Ed Overing of the Caddo Area Council spoke at a Kiwanis meeting at Town and Country restaurant. He noted financing limits, saying 18,000 area boys of scouting age but only 5,300 enrolled, with Hope serving 347 last year and about 7,000 needed for Hope alone. The talk praised volunteers and the United Fund while referencing local Kiwanis guests. In separate notes, Annette Kellerman Sullivan, famed swimmer and actress, died aged 88 in Australia.

Six Arkansas towns ruled ineligible for turnback funds

Six small Arkansas towns Bodcaw Bluff City Cale Prattsville Rosston and Willisville were found to lack the required five mill general property tax in effect, barring them from monthly turnback payments totaling about $500000. The opinion, sought by deputy state treasurer O D Treadway, ties distributions to local tax effort and population, with precise monthly shares listed for each town.

Gospel Singers The New Dedications Visit Hope

The New Dedications gospel quartet returns to Hope for two services at First Assembly of God Church, 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday morning. Pastor W S Bishop invited them after a successful August appearance. The group, once a regular in Dyersburg Tennessee, includes members living in Houston and Dyersburg, meeting in Hope for the performances.

Fromme Jurors Remain. Preemptions Still Possible

Lynette continues on front page notes Rose Rodoni and Leroy Lee will stay on the pool after saying they would not weigh Miss Fromme's antihunting views. Fromme can still remove one hunter from the jury via peremptory challenges, with ten dismissals by her and six by the prosecution. MacBride may dismiss.
