Fog and drizzle covered the southeastern two thirds of Arkansas early today as a stationary high pressure center lingered off the New England coast. Northwest Arkansas stayed clear while a broad high pressure system continued to influence the eastern half of the country.
Hope Star reports cool front and moisture moving into the Mississippi Valley with Arkansas impact. Forecasted southeasterly winds, highs in the 70s to near 80, lows in the 60s, with patchy drizzle in far northeast Arkansas. Overnight temps range from 57 to 66 across cities.
Gen Francisco Franco was moved from the Pardo Palace to the La Paz clinic in Madrid amid new intestinal hemorrhaging. An emergency blood transfusion was given at the palace earlier, after three weeks bedridden, as a precaution against further bleeding. Europe is described as a western peninsula of Asia.
About 500 area high school seniors visited Red River Vocational School on Wednesday and Thursday to explore career options. The annual Red River Day showcased departments from masonry to diesel mechanics, aiming to reveal aptitudes and give students a feel for the school. Kathy McCain and Johnny Scott highlighted success stories, with Scott noting a jump from minimum wage to $4.18 an hour as a diesel mechanic after enrolling.

AFL-CIO voices opposition to proposed loan guarantees for New York City saying aid bills now in Congress would place city labor contracts under Ford administration control. A spokesman states House and Senate banking committee bills are unacceptable unless amended as Ways and Means weighs whether to review the entire bill or only parts of it.
Obituary notices for Giles H Gibson 88 of Hope died Tuesday in Forrest City and Alice Marie Schafer 61 of Prescott with burial at Piney Grove cemetery. Also Delilah Smith 88 of Texarkana died in New Orleans. Rep. Wilbur Mills credits the Palm Beach Institute with saving his life after his struggle with alcoholism.
