The Associated Press reports widespread frost expected across northern Arkansas as a large high pressure ridge moves over the state. Radiation cooling is anticipated to drop overnight temperatures into the 30s, with frost also forecast for the rest of Arkansas.
The Hope Star reports mild temperatures in the 50s to 70s with a ridge moving east and a southerly flow bringing more clouds. Harrison cools to 29 and Fayetteville to 32. No precipitation in the past 24 hours. extended outlook favors little or no rain and mild conditions through Sunday.
LITTLE ROCK AP Rep Kay Thornton and five Democratic constitutional officers were re elected Tuesday as they faced no opposition. The officials are Atty Gen Jim Guy Tucker Secretary of State Kelly Bryant State Treasurer Nancy Hall State Auditor Jimmie Red Jones and Land Commissioner Sam Jones. Lord Hawes Lord Hailes dies in London at 73 former governor general of the West Indies announced by his family Tuesday.

Democrats claim Senate control for the 11th straight cycle winning at least four GOP seats amid tight races in Nevada and Oklahoma. Ford concedes as House shifts to a strong Democratic majority, with Republicans losing key seats and several incumbents on major committees toppled in nationwide wave.
Partial results show U S Senate totals from 2 588 of 2 745 precincts with Dale Bumpers at 413 931 votes 84 percent and John Harris Jones at 76 334 votes 16 percent. Governor David Pryor leads Ken Coon 322 858 66 percent to 168 789 34 percent. Lieutenant Governor Joe Purcell 303 338 Leona Troxell 86 819. David Pryor spoke at a victory celebration promising diligent efforts as Arkansas governor and cautioned about perilous times. He praised outgoing Gov. Bumpers, rejected debate with opponent Coon, and addressed allegations of campaign donations linked to AMPI stating the $100 check was for a 1969 Oklahoma meeting and involved him only peripherally.
Arkansas voters reject Amendment 57 removing the 10 percent interest ceiling, with about a 6-1 margin based on 1,409 of 9,745 precincts reporting. Other proposals showed mixed results as Amendment 54 headed for adoption and Amendment 56 appeared possible, while Amendment 55 trailed.
J W Fulbright of Fayetteville aged 69 is defeated by Dale Bumpers in the May 28 Democratic primary ending Mills career of three decades in the Senate. Bumpers defeats John Harris Jones, a Pine Bluff banker and lawyer, who was the GOP nominee. A controversy over the Tidal Basin incident and gifts tied to Mills' 1972 presidential bid was seen as harming his re election bid though Mills blamed media coverage of his congressional power for the loss. He refused to discuss the incidents, including a October 7 Tidal Basin car stop involving an ex stripper, Annabell Battistella, and a drunken Mills bleeding from face injuries.
Walter Echols Locke 83 died November 5 after brief illness. Retired Civil Engineer and former Magnolia City Engineer 1952 to 1960. Survived by wife Birdie Ray Locke, two sons Richard Locke and W Echols Locke Jr., daughter Dale Wood, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
