British plan to train 140 athletes in Swiss Alps for 1972 Munich Games

The British Olympic Association aims to raise 36000 dollars to send 140 athletes for three weeks of altitude training at 6000 feet before the Munich Games, matching moves by Russia, East Germany and others, despite opposition from some British officials and runners Ron Hill and Don Faircloth. Dr. Raymond Owen notes a 3,000-meter group trained at altitude can run about 11 seconds faster than sea level athletes.
