The Clarion Ledger announces it will print the name and address of every juvenile charged when a felony is involved to deter delinquency amid rising juvenile crimes. The move follows an area survey showing printing names reduced offenses in many cities.
Attorney General Joe Purcell, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, condemned former Gov. Orval Faubus for seeking the Democratic nomination in 1970. Purcell said Faubus and the “kingmakers” want to restore power after 12 years, while Arkansas voters should move forward beyond an era as outdated as horse and buggy. Faubus announced his comeback at a Wednesday news conference, recalling his 1955 to 1967 tenure.
President Nixon asked Congress for a $500 million desegregation fund to aid southern districts ending dual systems and to promote voluntary desegregation in northern areas with isolated minority groups. A smaller portion would upgrade segregated schools, with $1 billion planned for 1972.
Allan J. Canady, 9, of near Harrison, Arkansas, was found Wednesday in Bull Shoals Lake near Lead Hill in Boone County. Police say Canady apparently drowned after fishing with two friends Tuesday night.
James Phillips reports leaders of 15 Negro colleges met Nixon to press a six point program to ease anger and frustration among Black citizens. They urged a national television address, greater Black input in policy, campus gun limits, a presidential conference with Black students, and a Black deputy attorney general to oversee prosecutions and civil liberties.

The April Consumer Price Index shows dinner at home unchanged from March while eating out rose. Food costs driven by restaurant meals and services hit the highest inflation since the Korea War era, with groceries steady and housing-related costs rising. The Dow fell to its lowest since March 1963 as unemployment climbed to 4.8 percent, about 4 million people unemployed.
New York AP reports the stock market fell to its lowest level in over seven years, with the Dow Jones at 676.55, its lowest since March 15, 1963, and the 60-stock AP index at 238.1. Analysts cite waning investor morale and April price pressures worsening investor sentiment.
Savannah police say a 16 year old Negro confessed to the pistol slaying of civil rights leader James Floyd during an attempted holdup. An 11 year old companion, also Negro, was arrested as an accomplice. Names withheld due to age.

Arkansas Attorney General says the Game and Fish Commission may participate with the Army Corps of Engineers in developing a recreational area in the St Francis River basin. Andrew Hulsey, commission director, requested the opinion as part of engineers routine requirements.
In New York a march of tens of thousands up Broadway supported Nixon's Indochina policy. The Building Trades Council led about 150,000 workers in a noontime rally at City Hall. They voiced pro war sentiment and opposed critics including Mayor Lindsay. Similar protests occurred in Buffalo and San Francisco with mixed messages to the president.

Saigon dispatch reports 217 Americans killed in action in the Vietnam war last week, a 29 percent rise from the prior week and the highest weekly US death toll in nine months. The allied command also cites 53 South Vietnamese troops and 3,737 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong killed, with 1,280 Americans and 1,470 South Vietnamese wounded. Casualties in Cambodia and Laos are noted, along with ongoing shelling and ground operations, including discovery of civilian bodies and stockpiled arms.
