An explosion ripped Ames City Hall injuring nine people and leaving the two story brick complex a shambles. Asst. Police Chief Tom Lyttle said the bombing occurred between 9 and 9 05 am placing the device on the south side of the city hall. The blast shattered windows and sent glass across the building as workers were hit by flying debris. City employee Ellen Landon described screams and bleeding from the glass. Nine were admitted to Mary Greeley Hospital with one in critical condition.
