Engineer outlines water needs and use in southwest Arkansas

Plains flood rescue underway in Helena area

Gov. Dale Bumpers ordered seven National Guardsmen to Helena as floodwaters damaged about 1,400 homes and at least 30 businesses. High water persisted in isolated spots while roads remained passable in most areas. Evacuations were led by Guardsmen with local police, fire officials, and Civil Defense volunteers. no injuries reported initially and damage estimates were still being tallied.
