An Associated Press report notes showers and thunderstorms spreading across Arkansas with heavy rain, gusty winds, and funnel clouds. No injuries were reported as a cold front and moist southerly flow fueled the severe weather across the state Tuesday.
A cold front plus moist southerly flow keeps showers and thunderstorms in Arkansas through Thursday. Tornadoes touched down in Stone, Izard, and Baxter counties with roof and building damage. Earlier storms hit Brinkley and Malvern, with trees and power lines down as a line of severe weather moved across the state.
Henry Witherspoon former Hope resident dies in Los Angeles hospital on May 10 1974 and funeral plans are announced. The Warren family held a May 12 1974 reunion in Prescott with numerous relatives listed from Hope Arkadelphia Pine Bluff and Plain Dealing. Beebe Chapter Order of the Eastern Star meets May 15 in Masonic Hall with initiation and officers election. Rev William Burton’s graduation and current pastorate noted.
Six guests from New Zealand including Graham Robertson and Peter Malcolm spoke at Hope Rotary Club Family Night in Town and Country. Dick Ayton screened color film And They Called It New Zealand, praised Arkansas hospitality, and presented a Rotary banner to club president Bob Gullett.
The measure aims to curb tax avoidance by reinvesting profits in oil exploration and tightens tax treatment on foreign oil income. It notes the depletion allowance saves oilmen 2 to 3 billion dollars yearly and allows 22 percent of gross oil and gas income to be deducted, with adjustments up to 60 percent of taxable net income. The committee raised the allowance from 50 to 100 percent and kept most natural gas deductions.

Terrorists surrounded the Maalot school area while security forces manned rooftops and ordered residents to bomb shelters. An Israeli woman soldier identified a terrorist as an Israeli citizen. Defense Minister Dagan traveled by helicopter to Maalot as villagers questioned security after the attack.
The Hope Roundup Club sponsors a 7 p.m. Thursday event at the Coliseum with tickets at 25 cents each or five for a dollar to benefit the 4H Club Horse project. Also noted are local events, honors, and college news including Airman Davna R. Quillin's assignment, financial aid openings, and student achievements at Harding College and Southern State College.
