Winners announced from the 14th Southwest Arkansas Poultry Festival art show held Saturday at Nashville High School. Adult division first place went to Mrs. Bill Hairr, second to Maggie L. Marron, with Still Life first place awarded to Helen.
LITTLE ROCK AP Attorney John T Lavey of Little Rock asked the state Supreme Court to reverse a lower court ruling dismissing a suit to require the University of Arkansas to let five Little Rock UA students see lists of recipients of complimentary football game tickets. He appealed from a Aug 9 1972 circuit court ruling and contends subpoenas duces tecum for UA officials to bring ticket accounting rules were ignored.
Bob Riley Arkansas lieutenant governor spoke at the Hope Lions weekly luncheon at Town and Country Restaurant. He urged pursuit of clean industry, noted Arkansas highways and river locks, and highlighted Lions projects for the blind and social progress. Attendees included local leaders and state officials.
In Benton Arkansas residents reported a giant flash in the sky prompting police to search nearby for a possible airplane crash. No plane was found and officials said no missing aircraft were reported. A state police spokesman attributed the event to a shooting star or meteorite and called off the search.
The Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that a wife of a service member is entitled to housing and medical benefits, aligning her status with servicemen's wives. The New Orleans District of the U S Army Corps of Engineers will charge uniform overnight camping fees at Lake Texarkana and Lake O the Pines from May 25 to Labor Day 1973 under Public Law 92 347. Access to water and day use remains free. Golden Age Passports grant 50 percent off overnight camping for eligible seniors.
