Washington AP Japan and the United States reach a voluntary accord to limit U S softwood log imports to 9.5 million cubic meters in the fishing year starting July 1, a 10.9 percent cut from 1972. The aim is to ease a lumber shortage and curb rising prices.
Georgia lawmen seek three Baltimore escapees Carl Isaacs Jr George Dungee and Wayne Coleman in a triple homicide case that left Ned Alday and five relatives dead on a Seminole County farm and Mary Alday found shot elsewhere. Authorities say the men threatened police and may have killed victims one by one as neighbors reported armed fleeing suspects.
Governor Dale Bumpers met Monday with church leaders at the Governor's Mansion to discuss church involvement in human services in Arkansas communities. The session focused on boosting cooperation between state programs and church efforts amid anticipated federal cuts. Dr. Roger B. Best, director of the Social and Rehabilitation Services Department, warned Nixon administration guidelines could slash programs by up to 25 percent, risking services for the mentally ill and juvenile delinquents.

Mrs. Walter C. Langford former Gibs land merchant and Hope resident died May 14 in a Louisiana hospital. Graveside services set for May 16 at Gibsland Cemetery officiated by Rev. J A Jones. Interment in Gibsland Cemetery under Conger Funeral Home direction. Survivors include nieces Mrs. Joe King of Houston and Mrs. Doris K Brown of Little Rock and nephew William S Kennedy of England Ark.
Skylab 1 astronauts face 120 degree cabin heat as NASA weighs options to save the mission. They may install a protective cover or balloon to shade the lab or instead conduct a brief fly-around inspection before any manned linkup with the 85 ton Skylab. Saturday decision expected on launch timing and approach.
Experiment station report shows 24 hour period ending 7 am Wednesday with high 75 and low 43. Arkansas forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions and a warming trend tonight with fair skies and cooler Thursday. Lows tonight mid 40s to mid 50s and Thursday highs in the upper 60s to upper 70s.
