The National Weather Service forecasts showers and a few thunderstorms across north central and northeast Arkansas this evening. A low over northern Missouri drives the precipitation and is expected to move eastward. Temperatures should rise a few degrees with highs on Tuesday not fully stated.
The Hope Star for May 8 1974 includes forecast highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s across northeast to southwest Arkansas and overnight lows mid to upper 60s. Nearby city readings list El Dorado Texarkana Fayetteville Harrison Jonesboro Memphis Little Rock and Fort Smith with varied 56 to 60 degree lows and a trace to 1 inch rainfall in the 24 hour period ending 7 am.
Mall Ellis of Route 6 Prescott died after arrival at a local hospital Tuesday afternoon. He worked at Meyers Bakery in Hope and was a Baptist church member. Surviving wife Aline. daughters Betty Oswalt and Nell Butler. brother Guy Ellis. sisters Mrs. Bob Clark and Mrs. J. R. Lambert. 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral at Bluff Springs Baptist Church Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Burial Bluff Springs Cemetery. Oakcrest Funeral Home in charge.
Six men from Rotary District 298 in New Zealand will visit District 617 Arkansas from April 14 to May 25 and stay in Hope May 12 to 16. The visitors include Graham Robertson of Methven and Dick Ayton of Christchurch.
Hope Lions held a special Monday luncheon meeting at Town and Country. Eight new members were inducted bringing wass membership to 101. A secret Lion of the Year ballot will be announced at summer Ladies Night.

Henderson State College announces sixth annual basketball summer camps June 9 15 and June 16 22 for girls and July 14 20 and 21 27 for boys with guest instructors Jo Bottoms Floyd Gibson and Gerald Vines. Moonlite Sale winners are David Henley Goldie Elliot Mrs Irby Cariker and Janell Hunter. Buzz Andrews of Hope earns a BSE from Ouachita Baptist University May 11 and is noted for athletic and coaching achievements. Delta Chi Kappa Kappa Psi adds eight new members including Joey Clark Sidney Ehlert John Dorman Bill Arterbury Bob Arterbury and Joel Sutton. chapter officers listed and chapter location at Southern State College Magnolia. Deborah Gail Jester accepted to Harding College with plans to major in home economics and participation in Beta Club FTA yearbook and FHA achievements. to graduate from Blevins High School and enter Harding during the college 50th anniversary.
A report from the Rural Act discussion notes Secretary Erwin and staff show cooperation with the Coalition for Rural Development yet find the Rural Development Act offers little tangible benefit. It recalls that no new funds reached rural areas before appropriation and that staff shifts within the department reduced personnel. Democrats challenge the Nixon era policy outlined in a lengthy statement to Congress.
The American Legion Auxiliary Leslie Huddleston Unit 12 will hold a poppy distribution in the Hope area on Saturday May 11 to aid disabled veterans and their families. Poppies are made by disabled veterans in VA hospitals under Auxiliary supervision to support rehabilitation and widows and orphans programs.
