The Associated Press reports wet conditions in Arkansas as scattered showers and thunderstorms develop across northern and central portions. Strong thunderstorms are possible tonight with continued wet weather expected statewide Thursday.
Hope Star reports heavy thunderstorms Tuesday night across north Arkansas from Morrilton to Newport with marble sized hail at Morriston and pea sized hail at Newport. A warm front followed a cold front with the night’s storm activity. Temperatures rose notably in central Arkansas, with 7 a.m. readings up by more than 10 degrees in Little Rock. Highs ranged from 57 at Harrison to 80 at Texarkana. Tonight’s lows mainly in the 60s. next-day highs expected in the 60s to near 80.
In California big party figures stayed away as Vice President Ford and RNC leaders joined Republicans for a push while other parties drew lines. Four days earlier seven ex Nixon associates faced Watergate indictments linking Nixon to the cover up, underscoring a tense national political climate. In Ohio, Democrat Tom Luken edged toward an impeachment posture, while Republican Wallis Gradi ce sought a middle course amid White House criticism and ongoing indictments.
Dean Murphy, governor of the Missouri-Arkansas Kiwanis District, spoke at a Division 24 meeting at Red River Vocational-Technical School, outlining goals to add members and form new clubs. He cited local projects and youth sponsorships, and noted support for programs like Key Club, Circle K, Boys and Girls State, and Little League.
The Southwest District meeting of the Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs credits Hope merchants, KXAR, and public officials for support. Pauline B. Walker, president, thanks Gerald A. Center Hill council votes to recount the Feb. 22 merger election with Paragould. Center Hill residents backed consolidation 229 to 212, Paragould 1,032 to 856. Attorney Gary Johnson retained to seek invalidation. Merger would make Center Hill Ward 4 of Paragould.
The Arkansas Gerontological Society holds a quarterly meeting at 9 30 a m March 8 in Second Baptist Church Little Rock. President Lynnda Jones says the group pursues education research and services in aging with professionals students and laymembers.
