Airline crash death toll rises with dozens named

Investigation says it will take at least a week to confirm details after a crash with no survivors. A passenger list lists last names aboard, while the U S Embassy in London identifies 17 American residents of Britain among the victims, including Wayne Wilcox and his family. Also among the dead are four London fashion models, three senior Trade and Industry officials, and 18 Suffolk rugby players.

Hospital report to Rotarians on Hempstead County Memorial

Ray Woodard, hospital administrator, updated the Hope Rotary Club on Hempstead County Memorial Hospital affairs. Built in 1956 the facility needs expansion with plans for a two story wing a lab and x ray rooms funded from hospital revenue. Future additions include labor and delivery rooms and a therapy room. Nursing personnel reorganized into teams and benefits from the care unit in service education and new equipment from the hospital auxiliary. Four technologists are on staff and weekend doctors relieve local physicians. Don Abbott on leave of absence to study attended with board members Larry Patterson Mrs Ray Lawrence and Dr Herbert Rogers while Bob Gullett led the meeting.

Pre-registration Set at Blevins Elementary School

Pre-registration for the 1974-75 school year at Blevins Elementary will occur Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the school office. Children aged six by October 1, 1974 qualify for first grade, while five year olds by that date may enroll in kindergarten. Parents should bring birth certificates and health records to register, aiding plans for next year’s teacher needs.

KXAR Alpine tour opens for May trip payments

KXAR International will accept full 499 payments for the Alpine adventure May 22 to 30. Payments held until March 29, then fares and reservations shift to Vanguard Travel in Minneapolis. Slides delayed, new show date to be announced. The trip starts in Munich then Innsbruck area for seven days with optional tours to St. Moritz and other Bavarian sites.

Strike ends at Crossett Arkansas plywood plants

About 650 members of the International Woodworkers of America who had been on strike at Georgia Pacific Corp. plywood plants in Crossett since December 31, 1973, voted to return to work. Full operation should resume by March 11 under a three year contract with GP including an eight percent first year wage rise with a 23 cent minimum an across the board 22 cent raise in years two and three plus job classification changes and improved vacation benefits and group insurance.
