Associated Press reports widely scattered showers and thunderstorms across Arkansas through Thursday mainly in the afternoon and evening. Skies will be partly cloudy with warm humid conditions as the National Weather Service notes.
The Hope Star reports a high moisture scenario across Arkansas with a strong southerly flow, forecasting a few isolated showers and a cooling trend by the weekend. Wind warnings are in effect for northwest Arkansas as a high pressure ridge interacts with a strengthening low over Colorado.
Heber Springs, Ark. Michael Shiffon Adcock, 19, died when the car he rode in veered off a county road near Cleburne and overturned three times. Police said speed and loss of control were factors in the fatal crash. Authorities continued to investigate the accident and identify other occupants.
A crowd of about 200000 in St John Lateran Square cheered Communist leader Enrico Berlinguer at Rome's rally after Italy's regional election gains. He praised the party as a democratic alternative, warned against excess, and spoke of responsibility as Christian Democrats remained powerful.
New York AP report says a presidential congressional panel urges selecting CIA head from outside the intelligence community. The Baltimore Sun notes a broader reorganization of U S intelligence and tighter congressional oversight, while separating Secretary of State and national security adviser roles. The panel may propose appointing the national security adviser to a Cabined post. The commission, led by Robert Murphy, was formed in 1972 and will issue its report June 30.
Senior Laos general Sou chay Vongsavanh, administrator of Pakse, fled to Thailand after his troops defected to the Pathet Lao accusing officers of favoritism and corruption. Pathet Lao forces seized Pakse Savannakhet and nearby towns, with similar uprisings across former rightist areas. Vang Pao, CIA Meo commander, also left Laos for Paris and the United States with visas granted for travel.
The Agriculture Department reports a favorable crop situation by mid June with cool weather slowing some development. By June 15 soybeans were 86 percent planted, corn nearly finished, and Texas winter wheat harvest active though delayed by rain. Oklahoma and Kansas lagged on wheat due to late development. Cotton planting nearly complete in major states except Texas and Oklahoma.
Rainbow Family of Living Light plans its annual gathering July 1 5 at Lake Hinkle in Ouachita National Forest near Waldron Arkansas. Leaders estimate 3 000 to 20 000 attendees facing strong opposition from residents city officials and the forest service. Officials meet to discuss preventing the gathering as the service has not issued a permit per its rules.

Betty and Marsh Dean lead efforts to develop media for disadvantaged and handicapped students with coordinators from state and regional universities. Arkansas Lung Association awards scholarships totaling over 3200 to nursing students including James D. Blackwell of Nashville who will study at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville.
