Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to persist in Arkansas through Wednesday. The probability of precipitation should ease somewhat on Wednesday after heavy storms moved through Monday night and early today, with several severe weather events noted.
National Weather Service reports 75 mph winds in Rogers and 66 mph in Fort Smith, with 60 mph in Fayetteville. Widespread power outages and downed trees across Benton and Washington counties. Siloam Springs area hit. one canning plant wall destroyed. Civil Defense clearing debris as rainfall forecasts rise across the northern half of the state.

A GAO report warns sponsorship shortages may keep Indochina refugee camps open beyond the planned end next year and could require more than the 405 million already approved. Security clearances slow releases, but sponsor shortage and refugee reluctance to leave centers are major bottlenecks. Refugees concentrate in warm states and near Washington, DC, with 64 percent in ten states and DC. Typhoon season risks weathering tent camps on Guam, while Camp Pendleton and Eglin may not host them in cold months.
The Texas Railroad Commission extended the 100 percent state wide oil allowable through July for a 40th consecutive month. Nominations by major buyers totaled 4,018,347 barrels a day, down 2,821 from June, with East Texas limited to 86 percent to curb waste. Crude imports into the United States averaged 3,276,000 barrels daily, down 497,000 from January. Major purchasers listed include Amoco, Exxon, Chevron, Gulf, Mobil, Phillips, Shell, Texaco, and others with varied changes from June.
Firestone argues underinflated tires raise fuel use and wear. Mario A. Di Federico states cars with eight pounds of underinflation burn about 5 percent more fuel. He notes about half of 400 million tires are underinflated, reducing mileage potential and tire life. Firestone sells pocket gauges to encourage monthly pressure checks.
H A Taylor Sr a 64 year old Pine Bluff resident died in a local hospital from gunshot wounds suffered during a liquor store robbery. He said a man entered the West Pine Bluff store asked for cigarettes then demanded money and ordered him to lie in a back area before shooting. He was father of Chancellor H A Taylor.
A House Commerce subcommittee voted 10 to 1 to subpoena confidential natural gas reserve data from seven major producers including Am Gas Association and oil firms. FTC found reserves reported by AGA 24 percent lower than company records, urging action. Subpoenas target CEOs. contempt citations possible if records are not produced. AGA spokesman said cooperation will occur within limits.
Troop 91 leaves Sunday for Camp Pioneer near Mena for a week of merit badges including cooking hiking rowing canoeing swimming and lifesaving. The camp features a new Olympic size pool and a new campsite sign crafted by Scout Scott Patton and his father Albert. Friday night is visitors night with awards and order of the arrow ceremonies for First Class Scouts.
The Arkansas Teen Queen Pageant will be held June 28 at Robinson Auditorium in Little Rock with contestants ages 13 to 17 who must not turn 18 before Sept 1, 1975. Prizes include a national winner scholarship and multiple state awards. Little Miss Arkansas Talent also runs at the same hotel with five categories.
