The Associated Press reports rain prospects remained high but relief was anticipated. The National Weather Service noted continued moisture influx and a stationary front from Harrison to Memphis that complicated conditions, with an upper level disturbance also affecting the scenario.
A Hope Star weather update notes widespread showers and thunderstorms across Arkansas with 70 percent NW and 80 percent elsewhere. A weak front moves in, with showers ending by Wednesday night and highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s. An Experiment Station report records 83 high and 8 low with 0.10 inches of rain in 24 hours.
Two Dallas brothers were arrested after a $20 theft at the Exxon Service Station on Highway 29 Sunday afternoon. The men fled in a gold Cadillac. police took the license and Hope officers nabbed them on 1-30. Bobby Haney faces petty larceny charges while Henry Haney is held for possible possession of a stolen shotgun. Officers Rowe Sith and sheriff’s deputies investigated.
Garden City New York AP leaders of the New York State doctors malpractice insurance protest voted early today to end their 10 day slowdown and return to work for an indefinite period The Doctors Crisis Committee representing 15000 doctors in nine downstate counties urged a cooling off period and suspension of curtailment of services The slowdown began June 1 and had spread from the New York metropolitan area to upstate areas prompting emergency care only in many places The move follows Gov Hugh L Carey announcing a malpractice commission to study rates lawsuits and causes of malpractice disputes The doctors seek medical rather than legal definitions of malpractice limits on awards limits on lawyers fees and a statute of limitations on malpractice cases The physicians policies expire July 1 and the Argonaut Insurance Co premium increases up to 300 percent or loss of coverage prompted the action

A DeWitt man identified as Adams, 61, died Monday while testing a new boat on a lake near Lock and Dara 2 on the Arkansas River in south Arkansas County. Authorities say he apparently fell from the vessel and drowned. He was the father in law of DeWitt Mayor Juan Sohailhorn.
Obituary notices for John L. Sanders 55 of Emmet died in Prescott hospital with services at Harmony Methodist Church and burial at Harmony Cemetery. Martha Jane Littlefield of Nashville 94 died in a Nashville nursing home with 10 a.m. services and burial in Nashville cemetery. A O Bright 67 of Fulton died in a local hospital with multiple relatives listed and services at Hern don Funeral Home in Harmony Cemetery. Carl Norwood 74 of Route 1 Hope died Sunday in local hospital with funeral at Anderson Union Baptist Church Hope. Sam Bass Graham 87 long time Nevada County resident died at home in Prescott with services at Nubbin Hill Church near Prescott. Funeral Home arrangements handled by Cornish and Herndon with multiple survivors listed.
Rod Serling creator of The Twilight Zone is in fair condition in the ICU at Tompkins County Hospital. He was admitted Saturday with illness not specified. The Syracuse native, 50, lives in Interlaken and teaches at Ithaca College. Previous mild heart attack noted last month.
The Crop and Livestock Reporting Service says Arkansas 1975 cotton is off to a good start with no major disease or insect issues. Planting near complete, 95% of planted acres up to acceptable stand, 65% of soybeans planted, wheat harvest beginning in southern areas, sorghum and corn growing well, and the first alfalfa cutting completed.
Clay County authorities report two prisoners from the Piggott jail escaped this morning by climbing through the roof of a crowded cell. Martin Eugene Tyson, 31, and Terry Harmon, 23, were held on burglary and grand larceny and auto theft charges respectively. Harmon was among eight prisoners brought from Cummins Prison Farm to testify in a trial.

Northrop officials deny knowledge of the firm’s operations while confirming a $450,000 payment to a Saudi agent and a $4,400 Iranian tax settlement.
